The Orphanage- Ets Horror Movie Review

The Orphanage by Guillermo del Toro

I am branching out a bit, recently Ive began watching loads of horror films :-). Regrettably this combined with exams I lack any time to watch anime so I though figure might as well do at least one review.

Synopsis: This film is basically a ghost story, its a psychological horror. A women moves back to her old orphanage to rebuild it and open it for disabled kids. Her son then begins communicating with new friends.

explanation:
The main thing with this review is to avoid any spoilers of any kind. As the film is built on twisting what you thought was happening, questioning yourself while out right creeping you out.

horror:For me slasher films are dull, so this is my kind of film. The creepiness combined with atmosphere begins at the very beginning thus making the film enjoyable from the very start. Unlike many films it doesn't try to use gore or jump scares to scare you its a ghost film at its purist.

acting:The acting of the film is by far the best Ive seen in a very long time. The pure rationality of some characters make them very believable. and the acting of the main women is by far the most compelling and out standing and you truly begin to sympathies with her and will her on.

but you cant ignore the criticism:
  • certain characters could grape on you many times, and characters sometimes you out right hate.
  • some of the characters seem thrown in for the sake of it, making them pointless.
  • lack of explanation, some would argue this adds to the film but sometimes it would be nice in certain aspects to know the back stories of how some things occurred or why.

song of the day- here to you by TAT, uplifting, fast tempo, bit jazzy.
art of the day is from another magic card called fiend of the shadows
any recommendation mostly anime please do leave a comment.
